Fellowships
From CommerceNet Wiki
CommerceNet seeks a few entrepreneurial researchers interested in spending a year or so exploring bold visions for the Internet. These explorations may lead to open source initiatives, start ups, or research programs that can be transferred to more traditional labs.
Who Are We? For twelve years we've combined research and entrepreneurship as the nonprofit accelerator of Internet innovation in Silicon Valley. Among our pioneering accomplishments are: the first secured Web credit-card transaction; the first consumer Internet adoption survey; and the first XML business vocabularies.
Who Should Apply? The ideal candidate is a talented self-starter with both research and entrepreneurial interests and a personal passion. S/he may be a new or recent graduate, or someone currently working (Senior Fellow) in a research lab who craves more personal freedom and upside.
What Do We Do? Our research interests include decentralization and AI meets Web 2.0. We are studying: how groups can use information markets to predict the future; how every information source can be used as part of a web annotation system; and how real-time event services affect the nature of work. Our recent technical reports covered topics such as: infrastructure for RFID tags; business services network architecture; and the role of e-commerce to advance fields from healthcare to supply-chains.
Why Come Here? We focus on transforming innovations into companies and helping researchers become entrepreneurs. In addition to our research work, we sponsor a range of Open Source initiatives and seed startup companies. Along with the freedom to explore their research ideas, Fellows receive support and funding for prototyping, experimentation, trial deployments and collaboration with other research groups. Fellows will also have the opportunity to interact with other entrepreneurs and be mentored by CommerceNet's network of senior advisors.
How to Apply: Please email a statement of interest, resume or CV, and references, directly to the Executive Director. This position is a fixed-term appointment; it includes a competitive compensation package commensurate with education and experience. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.
